Tsum Valley is one of the hidden treasure trekking destination in Nepal which lies in the Manaslu region. This trek takes the trekkers to the hidden valley of Tsum which means “vivid” home to the direct descendant Tibetan people known as Tsumbas. This Tsum valley trek is not only naturally beautiful with Himalayan scenery but also culturally rich. This reason is a sacred Himalayan pilgrimage and untouched valley situated in northern Gorkha district. Sacrifice and killing any living beings is strictly forbidden in the entire region, even no one can take any meat item/product including trekkers while traveling in the valley. Therefore, Will be punished and fined according to local community rules and lows if someone break the rules and regulations.
The hidden treasure Tsum valley is recently opened in comparison to the other popular regions such as Everest Base Camp; that’s why, this region is relatively virgin with less beaten paths so, the infrastructures is not been developed yet. Even though, since last few years this region is gaining huge popularity and offering the finest trekking experience in Nepalese Himalayan. Tsum Valley is dotted with numerous Buddhist monasteries, Chortens and Mani walls which preserves steps of the great Tibetan Buddhist Yogi Chyuchin Milarepa and story about Guru Padmasambhava circumambulate. Tsumbas (people of the valley) never slaughter animals, even as sacrifice to the gods.
The beautiful Tsum Valley is surrounded by amazing mountains such as Buddha Himal and Himal Chuli to the west, Ganesh Himal to the south, and Sringi Himal to the North. The mesmerizing views of mountains, beautiful varied landscape, verities of flora and fauna, beauty and rich blend of Tibetan and Nepalese culture are the wonderful attraction of this trek.
Some Lodges has been opened for the tourist along the trekking route therefore for last several years this trek is organized as lodges trek but as per the trekkers preference it is possible to organize camping/tented trek as well. When we do lodge trek known as tea house trekking, we will have basic accommodation and foods in the tiny lodges and guest houses.
Company representative will welcome at the airport and transfer to the Hotel. After checked in, briefing about the trip. In case of morning arrival, you can take a rest after long flight and shopping the things before departure of the trek in you needed or visit around Thamel or the Hanuman Dhoka durbar square.
This is the day to discover jewels of the Kathmandu valley: after breakfast, we go to huge Buddhist monument Swoyambhu stupa which is located on the north-west hillock of Kathmandu. After visiting, this amazing Buddhist site, we go to one of the beautiful city Patan where we will have lunch break and continues to discover Darbar square, Viharas, and temples. After finishing visit, we will return at the Hotel and sometimes for rest and prepare your baggage for the trek.
After having breakfast early in the morning, we will leave Kathmandu to Machhakhola. About 8-9 hour's drive from Kathmandu (depends on the traffic), via Dhadingbesi (headquarter of the Dhading district), Arughat (we used to begins our trek from here). Some parts of the road are still bumpy and dusty but we won’t get panic by passing the greenery hills and rivers gorges, beautiful villages, agriculture fields on terraces. Finally, we reach at Mahhcakhola from where our trek begins.
Today we are going to start our real trek. After the breakfast we will cross the bridge and follow the BudhiGandaki river gorge. The rocky trail then weaves its way up and down, past two several waterfalls on a steep, rocky trail clinging to the side of a cliff. Climb behind a rocky outcrop, where the valley opens and the Budhi Gandaki meanders among wide gravel bars. Drop to the sandy river bed and walk along rounded stones before climbing over a side ridge.
After completing with the MACAP procedure, the trek moves gently uphill and then follows a flat leveled path. In some few minutes we will see magnificent waterfall near hydropower station. Taking some photos around we continue via Salleri and sirdibas then we cross a suspension bridge over Budhi Gandaki to get to Philim where we take a lunch break. Philim is a beautiful Gurung village and administrative center for northern region of Gorkha district. After the lunch we continue to today’s destination Chisopani/Eklebhatti which will take one and half hour.
Today we have longer day in comparison to yesterday. After walking half an hour walk we will encounter amazing waterfall on right which falls down from very high rocky mountain. After having nice view and we continue ahead where we reach to the bifurcation of Manaslu circuit and the Tsum valley. From that point we take right side up toward Tsum valley. Climb through pine and rhododendron forests. Enjoy the views of Himalchuli Mountains at 7893m and Boudha Himal from Lokpa, a small beautiful village here we stop for the lunch. From here, descend half an hour towards Lungwa khola and climb zickzack trail further two hours north through pines and rhododendrons forest. Crossing the Siyar Khola, finally arrive at Chumling, from where we can view Shringi Himal.
It is another beautiful that we start walking Nepalese flat (little bit up, little down). Enjoying the great views of Ganesh Himal, amazing river gorge and the Himalayan flora and fauna we arrive at the Gho Village. We will take short tea break then continue another 2 hours climb to Tsum takes us to the village of Chhokangparo. After climing up half an hour we are supposed to cross little bit risky rock fall path. Here we need to be careful.
Today onwards, we are going up above 3,000m so we have to be careful of altitude problems. So we walk slowly in the same rhythm and drink enough water time to time. We go through the Rachen Gompa, which is also well known as Nunnery Gompa too. We make a small visit and continue walking through the well managed villages Lar. Climb upstream and cross the bridge to arrive finally at Nile.
Today is the most important day that we will be at the highest point of our trek above 4,000m. We follow the path towards Tibet which take lead us to Mu Gompa. When we arrived at Mu Gumpa, we are not so far from the border of Tibet. Just around 4 hours of walking from Mu-Gompa. The Gompa lies at the highest and most remote part of the Tsum Valley. After exploring the Mu Gompa and around we take all the way back down to Nyle.
Today onwards, we take same way back to down valley but will be the again interesting. As usual after breakfast we will continue our trek to Lamagaon. It is a soft and easiest day of our trek that we have just around 4 hours of walking. But there are many things to explore around the Lamagaon such as old Milarepa cave, Monastries and villages.
Today it is an easy walk down to a beautiful village Ripchet which is located at the bottom of Ganeshe Himal. Continue trekking watching the greenery of nature and descend down to ChhekamParo. From their continue descending to Gho where we take a break for the lunch. Descending further, we arrive at the bridge over the Sarpu Khola. Trekking along the lower Tsum Valley takes you Ripchet in the other side. Today the lodge and meal will be very basic.
Just after the village we are supposed to walk down with the long stone steps. Then ups and down trail continues to Lokpa here we will make a lunch break. As you follow the descending route you will pass by fairly dense pine forest and rhododendron forest where many species of birds inhabit the forest. Finally arrive at Philim after walking 5-6 hours long trekking. Philim offers you excellent landscape and surrounding mountains.
Today’s trek starts from Philim to Dobhan via Jagat. Descend down to Sirdibas and we finally reach to Jagat. From Jagat, the trail goes down to Bagar after walking some 15 minutes then cross the suspension. Further descend takes us to Yaruphant. The arid Tibetan climate now gives way to subtropical green vegetation. Finally arrive at Dobhan.
The trail crosses the Tharo Khola flowing in a rocky ravine. Head down again to the river and traverse to Machha Khola village. Pass the some waterfalls on a steep rocky trail on the side of a cliff. Walk along the ridge above Budhi Gandaki and cross the Sal forests. Finally, cross the bridge to arrive at Lapubesi.
We have still 2 hours of walking then will take a Jeep or Bus to Kathmandu along the banks of the Budhi Gandagi River with splendid views of green hills, mountains, farming terraces and villages on both sides of the road.
You are going to take last day’s advantages in Nepal that visiting Pashupatinath temple and lunch in front of huge Buddhist monument Bauddhanath stupa and back to hotel. After you will have free time to hang around Thamel and shopping souvenirs. To celebrate the successful completion of our trip, we will have a farewell dinner with company representative in the evening.
Today, you are going to leave Nepal hopping to see you soon, you will be taken to Tribhuvan International Airport 3 hours before the scheduled time of your flight. Our representative will be there on your farewell to help you out.
